Kellyn slept like a rockstar last night! We have been trying everything to get her to sleep better so we thought we would try letting her sleep in her room. It worked! She ate at 9 and went to sleep. She woke up at 1, 4, and 7 to eat and then went right back to sleep. I can handle that! I don't know if it is the crib or just a fluke. We shall see what happens tonight.
She also ate formula for the first time last night. I was worried it would upset her stomach. However, she ate it and went to sleep and didn't appear to have any problems. I am obviously done breastfeeding/pumping. It just wasn't working out. I was going crazy. I thought about it for a long time before making a decision. Ryan wanted me to keep pumping for the obvious reasons... it's free and better for Kellyn. I told him that I can keep pumping and go crazy or I can stop and be sane. We had this discussion last Thursday before he went to Manhattan to work. When he got back on Friday night we decided I needed to do what is best for my sanity. So I thought about it for a few days and decided I couldn't do it anymore. I had enough breast milk in the freezer to last until last night. So she got breast milk for 3 weeks... better than nothing right? I feel much less anxious and stressed so I know it was the best decision for me... and probably those around me :)
Now, on to the not so good news. Ryan told me last night that he has to go work in Nebraska and has to leave Sunday night. He will be home on Saturday nights and will have to leave Monday nights. He doesn't know how long he will be there, but I heard from one of his co-workers wife, whose husband is also going, that they were told 6 weeks..... but last time Ryan went out of state to work he was told 8 weeks and was gone for 16 so I highly doubt it will be just 6 weeks. So looks like I am going to be single mom for a couple of months. Ryan obviously isn't happy, but is playing devil's advocate. I am sure he is just trying to stay positive... he will be making a lot of extra money while he is there, he is lucky that they have work, and on and on. I however, hate Lithko and think they suck for sending someone out of state who has a new born. I will just have to utilize the grandparents for a break... I am sure I will need one!!! :) I can do it and I will survive (that is what I keep telling myself).
My Aunt and a couple of my uncles will be here this evening! I'm excited!

Yay!!
I haven't tried to put on my pre-pregnancy jeans since a week after I had Kellyn. When i tried them they fit... but I couldn't button them without well... overflowing, to put it nicely :)
Today I decided I would try on my jeans and see if they fit. They do!! This is really exciting for me so I thought I would share! :)

Really!?!?
Kellyn has nights where she sleeps good and other nights where she will only sleep while being held. It amazes me and I can't figure out why she does this... there is really no rhyme or reason for it. Needless to say I am tired. I am lucky if I get 2 hours of sleep in a row. Oh the joys of having a new born! :)
I have heard of babies having "blow out" diapers. Up until last night Kellyn hadn't had such thing. This morning I changed her and it was everywhere!! All over her back, her legs, her clothes, and her blanket. Seriously!?!? The sad part was that she didn't wake up when this happened... so not only was it everywhere, but it was dry and crusty. Gross!!!! I can't believe she didn't wake up. Of all the reasons a baby should wake up at night you would think this would be one of them!
Some of my family from Tennessee will be in town this weekend. I am excited to see them and for them to meet Kellyn. I will post pictures next week.
Hope you all have a good week!

11 days old!
Kellyn is 11 days old... already! She is eating good and hopefully gaining weight. I am taking her to the doctor today and hopefully she is back to her birth weight. She lost a lot of weight in the hospital. Last week she was back up to 6 lbs 4 oz so hopefully she gained at least 4 oz's this week. We have had a week of many firsts, obviously!
We had a first "rough" night. I think it was Thursday night (my days are all running together) she was up all night long. She wasn't really fussy, but she wanted to be held. Needless to say we got zero sleep that night. Since then things have been better.
We had our first experience of our heart stopping when she was eating and choked a little on her milk. Daddy quickly patted her back and she was fine... I hope that never happens again. It scared me!
She had her first bath. Which she HATED and screamed.
Ryan has been peed on and almost pooped on. We had out first experience with projectile poop.. lucky it didn't get on either one of us. I can't help but laugh at stuff like that. I have heard of boys peeing while getting their diaper changed, but never have I heard of this happening with girls. Kellyn pees while getting her diaper changed fairly regularly. I personally think it is funny!
She is such a character. I wish I could get picture of her facial expressions, but I can never grab the camera fast enough. She is very animated with her facial expressions. She is always making faces that crack up Ryan and I. So far the funniest was the other morning where Ryan and I were laying in our bed talking and Kellyn was laying next to me and Ryan said something about how she wasn't suppose to be in bed with us and she turned towards him raised her eye brows, kept her eyes closed and smiled. I am sure it was gas or something.. but it was perfect timing. I told Ryan she was thinking " I can do what I want Daddy". We are already in trouble... she has her Daddy completely wrapped around her finger.
Here are some pictures

Looking at her Daddy

She looks like she has a pop belly sitting like that.

You can't see her feet well... but I am assuming that they were twisted together when I was pregnant with her.. she rarely straightens them.

Never in a million years
I have never thought I would be so excited about poop. Did she poo? How much? How color was it? This has been mine and Ryan's topic of conversation reciently. When we left the hospital she hadn't pooed in over 24 hours so we were needing her to poop! Well she finally pooed after we had been home a couple of hours! We were so proud. Really? I am excited about poop? Oh, how things change!
We have been home since Monday afternoon. It has had its ups and downs. Breastfeeding is a challenge. I have an appointment with the lactation people at the hospital today. Guys, you may want to skip this section. At the hospital she would breastfeed ok sometimes and other times it was horrible! After we got home I had problems with her, she wanted fed and wanted fed now and it is almost like she doesn't want to have to "work" for her milk. I was getting so frustrated, then she had two really good feedings. So, I was hopeful that I could do this! Monday night or Tuesday morning the feedings didn't go well at all. She was fighting and not laching on right. Now, my nipples are cracked and bleed. So, I have been pumping since then. It works so much better and she took so well to the bottle. I haven't decided if this is the way I am going to go, but right now it seems like the best option! I don't want to breastfeed her because I am afriad of infection since they are cracked. I figure as long as she is getting the breastmilk it really shouldn't matter where it comes from. Maybe they will be able to help me when I go in today.
Well I need to go pump so I she can eat in about an hour. Have a good day. Here are some pictures for your enjoyment.

Drum roll please....
Welcome Kellyn Ann Margaret Shrimplin born September 18, 2009 at 2:43 pm.
I went to the doctor on Friday and she wanted to make sure that Miss Kellyn's head was down so I had a sonogram (the first one I have had since I was 18 weeks pregnant). Whelp, her head was up and her fluid was low so I had to have a c-section. I found this out at 11 am and had to go straight to the hospital for a c-section at 2 pm. It took the anesthesiologist 30 minutes to get in my epidural. It was not pleasant... My spine is curved so he had a very hard time. It was to the point where he was trying one more time then he was going to have to knock me completely out. Luckily it worked the last time.
Here are some pictures of our beautiful little girl... she weighted 6 lbs 8 oz and was 18 inches long.

This is a picture of her this afternoon

Proud Daddy

The first time I got to see her. She is less swollen now!
