11 days old!

Kellyn is 11 days old... already! She is eating good and hopefully gaining weight. I am taking her to the doctor today and hopefully she is back to her birth weight. She lost a lot of weight in the hospital. Last week she was back up to 6 lbs 4 oz so hopefully she gained at least 4 oz's this week. We have had a week of many firsts, obviously!

We had a first "rough" night. I think it was Thursday night (my days are all running together) she was up all night long. She wasn't really fussy, but she wanted to be held. Needless to say we got zero sleep that night. Since then things have been better.

We had our first experience of our heart stopping when she was eating and choked a little on her milk. Daddy quickly patted her back and she was fine... I hope that never happens again. It scared me!

She had her first bath. Which she HATED and screamed.

Ryan has been peed on and almost pooped on. We had out first experience with projectile poop.. lucky it didn't get on either one of us. I can't help but laugh at stuff like that. I have heard of boys peeing while getting their diaper changed, but never have I heard of this happening with girls. Kellyn pees while getting her diaper changed fairly regularly. I personally think it is funny!

She is such a character. I wish I could get picture of her facial expressions, but I can never grab the camera fast enough. She is very animated with her facial expressions. She is always making faces that crack up Ryan and I. So far the funniest was the other morning where Ryan and I were laying in our bed talking and Kellyn was laying next to me and Ryan said something about how she wasn't suppose to be in bed with us and she turned towards him raised her eye brows, kept her eyes closed and smiled. I am sure it was gas or something.. but it was perfect timing. I told Ryan she was thinking " I can do what I want Daddy". We are already in trouble... she has her Daddy completely wrapped around her finger.
Here are some pictures

Looking at her Daddy

She looks like she has a pop belly sitting like that.

You can't see her feet well... but I am assuming that they were twisted together when I was pregnant with her.. she rarely straightens them.

Look at that hair!

First bath... screaming

Sleeping baby

one week old. She always sleeps with her hands above her head. Ryan does the same thing...

Never in a million years

I have never thought I would be so excited about poop. Did she poo? How much? How color was it? This has been mine and Ryan's topic of conversation reciently. When we left the hospital she hadn't pooed in over 24 hours so we were needing her to poop! Well she finally pooed after we had been home a couple of hours! We were so proud. Really? I am excited about poop? Oh, how things change!
We have been home since Monday afternoon. It has had its ups and downs. Breastfeeding is a challenge. I have an appointment with the lactation people at the hospital today. Guys, you may want to skip this section. At the hospital she would breastfeed ok sometimes and other times it was horrible! After we got home I had problems with her, she wanted fed and wanted fed now and it is almost like she doesn't want to have to "work" for her milk. I was getting so frustrated, then she had two really good feedings. So, I was hopeful that I could do this! Monday night or Tuesday morning the feedings didn't go well at all. She was fighting and not laching on right. Now, my nipples are cracked and bleed. So, I have been pumping since then. It works so much better and she took so well to the bottle. I haven't decided if this is the way I am going to go, but right now it seems like the best option! I don't want to breastfeed her because I am afriad of infection since they are cracked. I figure as long as she is getting the breastmilk it really shouldn't matter where it comes from. Maybe they will be able to help me when I go in today.
Well I need to go pump so I she can eat in about an hour. Have a good day. Here are some pictures for your enjoyment.

Drum roll please....

Welcome Kellyn Ann Margaret Shrimplin born September 18, 2009 at 2:43 pm.
I went to the doctor on Friday and she wanted to make sure that Miss Kellyn's head was down so I had a sonogram (the first one I have had since I was 18 weeks pregnant). Whelp, her head was up and her fluid was low so I had to have a c-section. I found this out at 11 am and had to go straight to the hospital for a c-section at 2 pm. It took the anesthesiologist 30 minutes to get in my epidural. It was not pleasant... My spine is curved so he had a very hard time. It was to the point where he was trying one more time then he was going to have to knock me completely out. Luckily it worked the last time.
Here are some pictures of our beautiful little girl... she weighted 6 lbs 8 oz and was 18 inches long.

This is a picture of her this afternoon

Proud Daddy

The first time I got to see her. She is less swollen now!

First pic. Sorry, it's kind of gross.

It's official

It's official! We are 100% ready for miss Poindextress to come. All of her clothes are washed and put away. Everything is in its place and organized. It is a HUGE relief for me. I spent all day Sunday washing clothes, cleaning and organizing. Who knew something so small could have so many clothes?!? She has a lot of onsies, sleepers, and some pants. She doesn't have a lot of "nice" clothes, but I am sure that will change. Plus, all they wear for the first few months are onsies anyway.
We had our last baby shower on Saturday with the family. It was nice to get to see everyone and we got a lot of really nice gifts! Thanks to everyone who came. A special thanks to Aunt Sandy, Aunt Sally and Nicole for throwing the shower. It turned out great!
Ryan and I received a few gift cards so we went to Olathe yesterday to get a few things that we didn't get at the shower. It is obvious that Ryan and I have a different perspective on what we each think is a necessity. I wanted to get some head bands with flowers on them for Poindextress. Ryan thinks it is crazy that I got them. I think Ryan will understand the need the first time someone asks him if she is a boy! :) Notice, my "necessity" costs $5.00.. keep that in mind.
Ryan thinks it would be necessary for us to get a video monitor so we can see her without even having to go into the room. "We wouldn't even have to get out of bed to check on her." I agree this would be nice if we lived in a large house... or if we had a shed that Ryan worked in a lot. Neither of which we have. I think it is crazy to spend at least $200.00 on a video monitor. I had to put my foot down. Instead we got a fisher price monitor that cost $30.00 and works perfectly! Oh, Ryan also suggested that we use the gift certificates for a TV for the babies room... I don't think so mister!! :) Shopping with Ryan is always a very frustrating yet hilarious experience.

I go back to the Doctor on Friday, hopefully I am further dilated this week!! I have been doing a lot of walking. One, thing that we don't have ready is our hospital bag packed. I understand the reason for having it ready, but I use a lot of things I would take on a regular basis. I suppose I could get it packed with what I can and then have a list so we could grab what we needed quickly. Even though I don't think we are going to be "rushing" to go to the hospital... I think I will have a few hours to get ready.
I will update again after my Doctor's appointment on Friday.

Less than 20 Days!!!

I feel as though I haven't been one of those "crazy" pregnant women who have a lot of mood swings or who are super moody. I will admit sometimes I am a bit irrational (as Ryan would say), but over all I don't think I have been bad. However, these last couple of weeks have been rough. I find myself getting super annoyed with little things. My boss (the dynamics of my relationship with him would take days to explain so just bare with me) has been complaining to me about how he is so tired. He has been doing this for about a week and it is really getting old so yesterday I finally told him that I have zero sympathy for him. I explained that I haven't slept more than 4 hours through the night in months and I really don't want to hear that he is tired. plus I have a child in me that is sucking the life out of me! Ahhh it felt nice to tell him that.

While I am venting....

I remember asking my good friend Micaela is she had "popped" yet when she was pregnant with Alana. I want to emphasis that she is a good friend and I think I maybe asked her that once. I have this feeling that the next random person who asks me that might regret it. I think it is so rude! One, I hardly know you. two, pregnant women don't pop. We give birth. Three, are you an idiot? You are really asking a 9 month pregnant women whom you don't have a close relationship with or even know for that matter if she is about to pop???

This has been happening to me a lot lately. People I have met a couple of times, random people at the grocery store, Friend of friends. I just smile and say nope.... but I am thinking not so nice thoughts in my head.

I think the lack of sleep, being uncomfortable, frustrated because Poindextress isn't in the right position is all catching up with me. It is getting harder and harder to go to work. I obviously have a lot of anxiety. One really good thing that I am SOOO happy Ryan and I decided to do was take a newborn child care class. The first class was on Tuesday and the last one is on this coming Tuesday It is 6 hours total. It was really helpful. They go over all sorts of information on caring for a newborn. This last week we learned about sleeping and eating, we also learned how to swaddle the baby, and she told us things that I would have NEVER thought of. It is nice to have realistic expectations of what to expect. I think this class is going to prepare us as much as one can be prepared.
